A broken gas line outside the Kenosha County Courthouse sparked a brief evacuation of the building Thursday morning.

A landscaping crew working outside the courthouse struck a 1-inch service line around 10:30 a.m., according to We Energies spokeswoman Cathy Schulze. Gas flow to the line was shut off around 10:45 a.m., and the courthouse reopened around 11 a.m., Shulze said. Repairs to that line are complete, she said.

A request for comment from the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department was not immediately returned Thursday afternoon.
