The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development recently released a new guide to child labor laws.
The guide includes sections on work permits, liability and insurance, hours and wages and employment/equipment restrictions. A portion of the guide is dedicated to important definitions such as employee, minor, job shadowing, parent owned businesses, student learner, and many others.
The DWD’s website also features a page on child labor. The page address several frequently asked questions and provides links to the relevant Wisconsin statutes and administrative code sections.
For Federal information, the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour division provides a nice summary on its Child Labor webpage. There are numerous fact sheets and guidance documents available. The page also provides links to pertinent opinion letters.
