SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) – Jury selection is under way in Sheboygan County in the trial of a man accused in a fatal shooting outside a Walmart store.

Kou Yang is charged with killing Pheng Lee and wounding Chenglung Moua last January in Sheboygan. A criminal complaint says Yang shot the men after they and two others approached him in the parking lot of a Walmart store.

Police say the shooting was gang related, but Yang’s family says he was not in a gang.

Yang’s attorney, Kirk Obear, said Yang was afraid for his life because Moua was carrying a chain that he thought was a weapon and because shots had recently been fired at his house.

The Sheboygan Press says the trial is expected to last five days.
