A Milwaukee County Board could consider hiring a local law firm to represent the county in preparation of a potential lawsuit against companies involved in construction and maintenance of the O’Donnell Park parking garage.

On Thursday morning, the Committee on Judiciary, Safety and General Service is scheduled to discuss a proposed resolution crafted by Corporation Counsel Mark Grady to retain Whyte Hirschboek Dudek SC at a potential cost of not more than $50,000.

Grady could not immediately be reached for comment.

The county is currently defending multiple lawsuits tied to the June 24, 2010, accident where a concrete panel fell off the facade of the garage and killed 15-year-old Jared Kellner and injured two others.

Milwaukee-based Whyte Hirschboek is defending the county in the other suits and in a letter attributed to Grady to County Board Chair Lee Holloway, he said the firm is “uniquely qualified to represent Milwaukee County for its claims against others for potential recovery of repair costs and lost revenue.”
