SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (AP) — The Sheboygan Common Council is expected to vote Monday on beginning the process of removing the mayor from office.

Mayor Bob Ryan has been under fire for his drinking, most recently for a weekend binge in Elkhart Lake in which he was involved in a barroom scuffle. The council will consider a resolution that includes hiring special counsel and transferring funds to pay for it.

Ryan has promised to legally challenge any attempt to remove him from office. The Sheboygan Press says the process for removing him involves a special prosecutor who would investigate complaints against the mayor and present evidence to the council.
