LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — A La Crosse County judge has imposed a fine, but no jail time for a father whose infant daughter suffocated after he placed her in a bean bag chair.

Sean Meyer said he placed his 4-month-old daughter Evelin in the chair on top of the couch so she could watch cartoons. He fell asleep in another room and three hours later found the baby on the floor with the bean bag chair on top.

The 28-year-old Bangor father was originally charged with felony child neglect resulting in death. Meyer entered an Alford plea to misdemeanor child neglect Monday in an agreement with prosecutors. Meyer does not admit guilt, but acknowledges there’s enough evidence to convict him.

The La Crosse Tribune says the judge imposed a fine of about $1,500.
