WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) — A prosecutor says a dispute over drugs motivated a man to kill two men and dump their bodies in a Waukesha County lake.
Chad Lurvey is on trial for the deaths of Brian Lazzaro of Mukwonago and Andrew Long of West Milwaukee.
The bodies of the 25-year-old men were found in a private lake on Lurvey’s property in September 2002. According to a criminal complaint, both had been shot multiple times and their throats were cut.
District Attorney Brad Schimel told jurors during opening statements in Lurvey’s trial Thursday that Long had paid Lurvey to store drugs on his property and that on the day the men disappeared, Lurvey told an associate there was a dispute over missing cocaine.
The Journal Sentinel says Lurvey’s attorney, Stephen Hurley, told jurors police failed to investigate other associates of the victims who may have had reasons to want them dead.
