Sex-assault suspect could face new charge

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A Berlin woman accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old boy could face bail-jumping charges after she missed a court appearance.

The Brown County sheriff’s department says it received a tip that 26-year-old Rae Mackin was preparing to flee the state. She was arrested Wednesday.

She told a court commissioner Thursday she missed the court date because of a misunderstanding of the time.

A judge had revoked her $5,000 cash bond when she failed to appear. She’d been scheduled to enter a plea to second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette report says prosecutors are now considering a bail-jumping charge.

According to the criminal complaint, Mackin had consensual sex with the boy as another person goaded them on. She told investigators she knew it wasn’t right but she “didn’t want to disappoint anyone.”
